How the literacy program is organized to ensure print partners technology successfully. Teachers view K–3 AWARD classrooms in action and discuss the important features of organization, implementation, and the significance of a print partnering technology approach to classroom practice.
Discussion about how to:
– successfully integrate instructional technology and print to accelerate reading achievement for all children, K–3; – integrate technology successfully into every shared, small group, and independent reading experience; – provide comprehensive skills development with practice and application every day through teaching, texts, and technology in the five key areas of reading—phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency; – make assessment an integral part of the classroom reading program, and design it to be a positive force in the teaching/learning process. (AWARD assessment includes easy-to-use computer-assisted tasks that provide a personalized profile of each child’s knowledge and progress.)
A detailed exploration of the AWARD program
Participating teachers would read the narrative and informational texts, play the CD-ROMs, do the assessment, and look closely at the Teachers’ Guides. Teachers can explore how all the materials in AWARD are organized on a five-day weekly plan to ensure successful classroom practice using technology and print every day.
