Making a difference with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act PDF Print E-mail

AWARD Delivered OnlineWendy Pye Publisher AWARD Reading

I am delighted to report that Grade 2 AWARD is now online, and free to those districts and schools that have purchased the kits.

For the past 25 years, I have been working with thousands of schools and many educators across America to develop ways for all children to Read and Achieve by 8 years of age. After my first program, which included Mrs. Wishy Washy and many Storybox titles, I then published Sunshine Books for The Wright Group. The little 8 and 16 page books and the big books became classroom favorites and hugely successful with children.

I then dreamed of what a 21st-century classroom could do for the new generation of children—those who were growing up with game consoles and technology as part of their lives. With this in mind I set a task for writers, educators, animators, and people who could capture the special creations that books are and also highlight the essential skills needed to make the difference for every child to achieve. This took six years of development, and a further three years of testing. Once AWARD Reading reached classrooms, the results were outstanding. There are now over 300 titles and 800 skills activities in print and digital formats—games and learning activities that extend over all curriculum areas. This is a most powerful learning tool for ELL and RTI at grades K–3.

AWARD Reading offers a new experience in learning. It is an opportunity to invest in proven, innovative solutions to raise standards and achievement. This is a step on from my original Sunshine but with the multimedia techniques of the digital age. This approach provides intervention solutions to change the lives of our students in RTI and ELL classrooms.
